Q: How do I create the content for my website?
A:  Web sites are created in a language called hypertext markup language (HTML). There are many free and commercial software packages that can create your HTML code for you. Some of the more popular applications are Microsoft FrontPage and Macromedia Dreamweaver. You can also choose to code your webpage by hand (see next question).
Q: Are there any websites that can show me how to write HTML code?
A:  There are quite a few websites that can help you with this including:
WebMonkey: http://www.webmonkey.com/ (external link)
HTML Goodies: http://htmlgoodies.earthweb.com/ (external link)
Web Style Guide: http://www.webstyleguide.com/index.html?/contents.html (external link)

A:  Yes, If you are unable to use PHP pages on your site, please e-mail webmaster@ptd.net so we can investigate the problem.
Q: Do you allow Perl CGIs?
A:  Yes, but on our UNIX network only.
Q: Do you provide any scripts?
A:  We currently do not provide any scripts for our customers to use. NOTE: Please be cautious of using scripts from Matt’s Script Archive (www.scriptarchive.com (external link)). Many of these scripts cause various problems or security issues that may require us to disable them. Using these scripts is at your own risk.

PenTeleData does suggest using scripts from the following website: http://nms-cgi.sourceforge.net/ (external link). Please be advised that PenTeleData assumes no responsibility for the creation or use of these programs.

A:  Yes. Dreamweaver uses the FTP protocol which is supported on our UNIX network.
Q: Can I provide anonymous FTP?
A:  You must request anonymous FTP access for it to be enabled. Please e-mail to have this feature enabled. Anonymous FTP is available only for our UNIX network. Once anonymous FTP is enabled on your account, you can place files in the /pub directory to allow anonymous users to download them. Files that other users upload will be placed in the /in.coming directory, which only the webmaster can view. Please be aware that all content served from an anonymous FTP is bound by our Commercial Acceptable Use Policy, which is viewable at Policies, which restricts (among other things) copyrighted material from being illegally distributed.

Q: Can I provide authenticated FTP?
A:  We do not support adding additional users on your site to use authenticated FTP. If you need this feature, please contact our sales department about a managed server.
Q: What types of statistics are available?
A:  On our Windows web network, we offer LiveStats. Live Stats is included with all Windows web packages. On our UNIX network, we offer wwwstats, which is included with all UNIX web packages, and we also offer NetTracker (a more detailed set of statistics) for an additional fee.
Q: How do I get a secure (https) site?
A:  You will need a digital certificate. Please contact our sales department for details on obtaining a digital certificate.

Q: What is the difference between a shared and private digital certificate?
A:  A shared certificate is owned by PenTeleData and is used by several customers using separate directory structures. A private certificate is owned by the customer, and is used only for that individual website. Also, shared certificates are not available on our Windows network, while private certificates are.
